    We are currently seeking a full time Mental Health Technician at Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, MD with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. This position is 40 hours per week, day shift, 12pm-8pm (will need flexibility on some days). The Mental Health Technician will provide basic behavioral/mental health monitoring under the supervision of licensed behavioral/mental health staff in collaboration with multidisciplinary team in a correctional setting. 



    Duties include:


    • Create and provide recreational groups designed to address symptoms, provide structured cognitives and social stimulation and promote individual recovery and well being
    • Conduct assessments of detainees recreational and adaptive living needs  
    • Participate in treatment team meeting and provide recreation goals and appropriate interventions to assist the detainee in reaching those goals
    • Prepare psycho-education videos for inmates, review with inmates when complete 
    • Distribute in-cell programming materials
    • Work collaboratively with RN staff and State Psychology staff to assist with programming

    • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or Counseling.
    • One year experience involving public contact which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders, or others
    • English grammar and punctuation sufficient to record information in client charts; basic arithmetic
