  • Overview

    MHM Solutions, in our exclusive partnership with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, provides medical professional staffing service to the Bureau of Autism in Harrisburg, PA.   MHM solutions currently has an opportunity for a:  

     

    Communication  Support Professional for the Deaf

    M-F 8am-4pm 7.5 hours per day

      

     

    -The employee in this position performs professional and clinical work to support individuals who are deaf and/or have nontraditional communication needs. 

     

    -The employee works closely with the Office of Developmental Programs’ Deaf Services Coordinator to ensure that deaf participants in home and community-based service programs receive accommodations and supports to maximize receptive and expressive communication. 

     

    -The employee will collaborate with Pennsylvania’s Intermediate Units and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation’s Office of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing to identify and expand availability of interpreter and assistive technology services. 

     

    -The employee works in conjunction with Administrative Entities and Supports Coordination Organizations to expand the availability of providers who are willing and qualified to support individuals who are deaf and/or have nontraditional communication needs, who may include a diagnosis of autism, ID and MH.  

     

    The employee also develops training materials to increase knowledge and awareness of the needs of people who are deaf and/or have nontraditional communication needs. 

     

    Duties

    -Assists in the assessment of capacity and statewide needs in the areas of supporting deaf participants and people with nontraditional communication needs. 

    -Develops strategies to improve the organization, financing, and delivery of services to deaf participants and people with nontraditional communication needs.

    -Collaborates with the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units and with Pennsylvania’s intermediate units to identify and develop resources for supporting deaf participants, with emphasis on interpreters, signing staff; fully signing environments, and assistive technology services.

    -Collaborates with the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation’s Office of Deaf and Hard-of Hearing to identify and develop resources for supporting deaf participants, with emphasis on interpreters, signing staff; fully signing environments, and assistive technology services.

    Qualifications

    • American Sign Language fluency at Survival Level required; fluency at or above Intermediate Plus level strongly preferred 

     

    • Knowledge of Deaf Culture

     

    • Experience in provider develop/capacity building strongly preferred
